Myths: “Deadlights”

I caught the kaleidoscopic cyclone of noise that is Myths last month in Montreal and bought their record straight after the show. Did not even consider hassling some poor PR into handing it over for free, just forked over the cash and it was totally, totally worth it. Getting blown away by a new band is an increasingly rare thing, and not only because I’m creeping towards becoming cripplingly jaded. There are simply mounds of homogenized musical waste chucked up online every day, and most of those sad MP3 are still an utter treat compared to what this snotty, strumming, bleeping bundle of mediocrity can produce live. Myths, on the other hand, created one of the least safe records out there, and this messy volatility is the most charming thing about it; it’s the antonym of boring and they perform it in a rainbow whirlwind of these awesome, freakishly indulgent shrieks and sneering beats.
