Continuing Revisited, are Gavin Watson’s Photos Of Ex-Girlfriends from 2006. Watson made his name photographing skinheads, ravers, and loads of bands, and has also done some great shoots for us. Looking at Watson’s skinhead girlfriend Tina, you can see he lives the same life so many of his subjects do, which is what makes him so good. We spoke to him for a quick update on Ex-Girlfriends, and to see if we could run some images of additional girlfriends. LESLEY Vice: So Gavin, four years have passed since this was first published, what made you want to publish old pics of old girlfriends? Gavin Watson: Because you guys asked me. Ha ha, no, originally! Hmmm, it was originally Andy’s suggestion because he loved the picture of Kelley on the bed from Skins And Punks, so he asked if I had anymore. I’ve had five long-term relationships in 25 years, so I had a few to choose from. KELLEY Right. So was the process of selection easy? For the pics that is. Yep. I was asked, typed in my old chicks’ names, and sent the first picture that popped up. There was no choosing process, I let Mac Finder do the editing. TINA Ha ha nice! Do you still keep in touch with any of them? If so, did you tell them about the piece? Yep, I’m in contact with all of them, we talk every so often. Tina had my child so there will all ways be a connection there. My last love story ended very painfully for me, so I haven’t really gone there. And yes, I told them they were about to be nude in Vice. TZARA Cool. So any info on the two new additions? Tzara was a great love of mine, she is Norwegian, and is now an opera director. I met her at the International Film School, where she was training to be a film director, I was acting in loads student films at the time. Then there’s Victoria, I was with her for over 8 years, and am still healing. It’s a great motivating force heartbreak. I would have to compose a dramatic Wagner-type opera to communicate the range of emotions and feelings I just couldn’t express, but the very fact that I’ve been able to include that shot today, shows that I’m healing. VICTORIA For sure. Are there any others lurking in the archives, that might come out in another three years, or is this it? Well, there were tonnes of muses and tonnes of photos of them, I could make a book. LESLEY You sent me some extra pictures of Lesley, who went on to do dressage in Austria, correct? Yeah, she’s a physical therapist, in reading now. She is an amazing woman, she educated herself, and really worked hard to make some good from her life. Only problem was, she was fucking ginger!!!!
