Prometheus’ Garden
Cinema 16 is a film society that was founded in 1947 by Amos and Marcia Vogel. Their whole thing was screening great films in a variety of genres and introducing people to relatively unknowns who later turned out to be very much knowns. People like John Cassavetes, who showed his early independent work there, and the experimental film titan Stan Brakhage.

After shuttering in the early 60s, Cinema 16 was revived in 2008. Nowadays the society focuses on pairing silent shorts with live musical scores. The last screening of the season is tonight at Attic Studios in Long Island City, where Soft Circle will be providing tunes for three classic short films. It’s ten clams to get in, and that includes PBR and cupcakes.
The films are Glimpse of the Garden, by Marie Menken (1957), Permutations, by John Whitney (1966), and Prometheus’ Garden, by Bruce Bickford (1988).
