One Woman Died and Nine People Were Arrested at Australia’s Earthcore Festival

A 25-year-old woman was reportedly found dead at the Earthcore dance music festival in Victoria, Australia. The police are not treating the death as suspicious, reports The Age. The cause of death has not been determined.

In addition to the death, a 22-year-old man was treated for a suspected overdose. The man was taken to a nearby hospital where he is in serious, but stable condition, according to the NSW Police.

Nine people were arrested for drug-related offenses at the festival. Three of the nine arrested were reportedly charged with supplying a prohibited drug while the remaining six were charged with drug possession. Last year, five people were arrested at Earthcore for drug possession.

“We are frustrated with the actions of several festival attendees, who despite all the warnings, attempted to bring illegal drugs into the event,” said Fairfield Local Area Commander and Superintendent Peter Lennon. “Not only are these substances illegal but they can have dangerous, even deadly consequences.”

Earthcore is a camping and music festival taking place from November 24-28. This year’s scheduled artists included Jackmaster, Birds of Prey, Machinedrum, and Scuba. Last week, we reported that thousands of free drug-testing kits would be made available at summer music festivals throughout Australia.
