When you listen to Drowners, you might be inspired to think of every booze-soaked, sloppy-kissed, late-night-romping-through-the-side-streets adventure you’ve ever had. (Guitars: mandatory.) They’re post-Strokes in the best way, zipping to and fro with a nervous energy betraying their youthful focus. I saw them play a few weeks ago, and it was pretty sweet—to celebrate what should be their certain explosion, I got singer Matt Hitt to give me his Firsties and Faves.
First time you were really ill from drugs or alcohol:
Got drunk on cheap whiskey at a house party when I was about 14 and ended up throwing up… I couldn’t handling smelling whiskey, let alone drinking it for the next five years..

I intentionally lost a game of ‘suck and blow’—the thing where you pass a piece of paper with your mouth – on a school trip when I was 12.

The Monkees. They used to show the TV show on Nickelodeon when I was a kid.
First time you were so embarassed you wanted the earth to rupture and swallow you whole:
I got punched in the face by some random chav kid when I was 16. He immediately ran off, leaving me standing in the street with the girl I was trying to chat up at the time.
First time flying:
Went to Ibiza with my family when I was about 13. Not as fun as going to Ibiza when you’re 18, I imagine.
First time you dressed in drag:
Hah… um… probably for some stupid themed party at University.
Favorite smell:
Cinnamon
Favorite fictional female:
Kelly from Saved By The Bell.
Favorite place on Earth:
Porthgain, Wales or Downtown New York.
Favorite body part:
On someone else? Eyes.
Favorite kind of plastic surgery:
The type you see at airports that went a bit wrong.
