Miyazaki’s Best Films Get Commemorated In 8-Bit Style

Hayao Miyazaki‘s on-again off-again relationship with retirement has brought a Chihiro-sized tear of frustration to many eyes. Instead of sulking when he retires and cheering when he comes back, artist Richard J. Evans took on a more proactive approach. Evans re-created some of the iconic animator’s most cherished characters in the equally cherished 8-bit approach.

Studio Ghibli, Miyazaki’s animation studio, continues to get plenty of airplay, so we thought we’d give Evans’ creations some much-needed eyeplay.

Some Porco Rosso (an underrated classic) wonderfulness.

And, of course, plenty of shots from Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away.
