Remember that scene in Minority Report where Tom Cruise uses special gloves to browse an assortment of media with a simple flick of the wrist? It seemed futuristic and impossible back then (way back in 2002), but with the advancement and widespread adoption of touchscreen technology, gesture recognition-based software development of interfaces like the one imagined in the film is not far behind.
The latest development on the gesture recognition software front comes in the form of the above demo video from Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology FIT. Their version requires no devices or special gloves, just the use of your hand and five fingers in order to manipulate media on the screen, and allows for multiple users to interact with the system simultaneously.
