Bryant University Freshman Forgets Team is Trailing, Dribbles out Clock for the Loss

Ikenna Ndugba thought his team had the lead and all he had to do was let the final 3.8 seconds tick away. Unfortunately they trailed by one. Oops.

Bryant University freshman Ikenna Ndugba pulled the mother of all brainfarts at the end of Monday night's 91-90 loss to Brown. Seemingly unaware that his team was trailing, Ndugba dribbled out the clock and heaved the ball into the air as though the Bulldogs won the game. Only when he went to high-five his shocked teammates did he understand that he had just cost his team a final chance at victory.

Somewhere, a grizzled old coach is yelling to nobody in particular, "Now this is why you don't play freshman!"

Even before the bizarre mental hiccup, it was a pretty wild finish. Ndugba's teammate, Nisre Zouzoua, staked Bryant to a one-point lead on a three-pointer with 12 seconds remaining, but Brown's Tavon Blackmon quickly took the lead back with a layup. Ndugba inbounded the ball with 3.8 second remaining, making a length-of-the-court score difficult, but not impossible.

The loss dropped Bryant to 2-5 on the season, while Brown improved to 3-4. Finally, an Ivy League school catches a break in life!
