Nathan Williams has been polishing up Wavves sound as of late. Whilst previous efforts have sounded akin to pharmaceuticals, weed and distortion being mixed in a blender under the ocean, previous single “Hippies Is Punks” tightened up the screws and sent us on a Dookie-era tinged journey back to the slacker pants 90s.
The band’s new single “Sail To The Sun” is more of the same. Sure, snot-nosed vocals rage against dirty guitars, but they’ve all been put through a slightly cleaner filter. The refined sound probably has something to do with the fact that pop maestro John Hill is producing the band’s new record. He’s recorded a whole bunch of stuff by the likes of Santigold, Shakira and MIA. It’s nice to hear the band maturing and it’s nice to be able to, y’know, hear Nathans voice.
