Like that dream where you turn up two hours late for your final exams, you’d imagine the guys from Antibalas are pissed that they slept through the entire afrobeat revival. Who knows, if they’d put out a record in the past half-decade, maybe they could have become the Betjeman to Fela Kuti’s Larkin. But they didn’t. Now, like that dream where you’re working at McDonalds but you’ve forgotten the word for McFlurry and therefore have to do a protracted mime in front of every customer, they have to take orders from people who think they’re TV On The Radio’s backing band. There is probably a parable here about timing.
