Channel Your Inner Goth with This Squid Ink Cocktail

Spare a thought for the goths at this time of year. It can’t be easy channelling the heart of inner human darkness when you’re sweating into a leather trench coat. And what does the trendy goth-about-town wear to a pool party or a beachside barbecue? Sand is a bitch to get out of cake makeup.

You may not see Robert Smith sipping piña coladas on a Cancun sun lounger, but that doesn’t mean goths can’t enjoy a summer cocktail.

So thank Satan for The Black Pearl: a drink that is both sunshine-appropriate and fitting with the perpetual gloom of our own mortal existence.

This dark concoction comes from Nicolas Baptiste, mixologist at Experimental Beach on the decidedly sunny island of Ibiza. Despite working in a bar that overlooks the Mediterranean Sea and probably has its own Kygo remix playlist, Nico gets what these goths are about. His combination of Fernet Branca, fresh lime, and jet-black squid ink is as deep and moody as it is refreshing.

Just don’t forget to keep the SPF 60 topped up.
