BBC will celebrate what would have been David Bowie’s 70th birthday with a new documentary.
Directed by Francis Whately, David Bowie: The Last Five Years will take a deeper look at the multifaceted musician’s last years in his life. New interviews and unseen footage will be included in the documentary, which also largely focuses on Bowie’s last two albums, The Next Day and Blackstar.

In addition to the documentary, the BBC will air a series of programs and radio shows to celebrate Bowie’s legacy. David Bowie: The Last Five Years is a follow-up to Whately’s 2013 film, David Bowie: 5 Years, which was released in 2013.
Watch a teaser trailer for the documentary here. In January, we looked at the peculiar soulfulness that helped define Bowie’s electronic music compositions.
