HENRY ROLLINS GETS KILLED

The other night I watched Wrong Turn 2. The original film, about a bunch of inbred mutant hicks killing beautiful people in the woods, was pretty good, as far as disposable, mindless, modern horror films go. I’d had a promo copy of the sequel gathering dust for a few years, and the recent straight-to-DVD release of Wrong Turn 3 reminded me of its existence.

Three Wrong Turn films. How does this happen? I don’t know how aware you are of the straight-to-DVD trilogy phenomenon, but increasingly studios are cashing in on hit films and basatardising their legacies by churning out wildly inferior sequels which go straight to HMV. And not just medicore films like Wrong Turn. Did you know there are three From Dusk Till Dawn films? Oh yes: a sequel (Texas Blood Money), and a prequel (The Hangman’s Daughter) – both lame, both not starring George Clooney, Harvey Keitel or Juliette Lewis (although all three were, more surprisingly, produced by Quentin Tarantino and Roberto Rodriguez). There are two straight-to-DVD Starship Troopers films; Starship Troopers 3: Marauder, which was released in 2008, even stars original lead Caspar Van Dien, who returned to the “franchise” after a few failed attempts to get himself a real film career (he has been in a few films, but they’re called things like Dracula 3000 and The Curse of King Tut’s Tomb).

Anyway, if crap cash-ins mean we get to see Henry Rollins killed by deformed mountain men, it’s good with me. Usually I don’t like going into spoiler territory, but fuck it – this is Wrong Turn 2 and you’ll probably never see it. By the way, the female lead in Wrong Turn 2 is an actress from Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2. Just saying.
