Jay Daniel, the precocious Detroit DJ who made his debut as a producer last fall on Theo Parrish’s Sound Signature label, is gearing up to unleash his sophomore effort on another lauded Motor City outpost. The record, a five-track EP titled Karmatic Equations, will arrive in a few weeks via Wild Oats, the imprint run by fellow Detroit-bred wunderkind Kyle Hall. A few weeks ago, Daniel posted clips of each track from the double-vinyl release, and we were so enamored with the rigid, purposeful stomp on “Change 4 Me” that we requested the honor of debuting the track in full. The tune, which you can stream below, goes through some transformations itself: blobs of acid synths form a simple melody around a straightforward kick, and eventually he fills out the track with buzzing pads.
