The Mets are operating with mad jiu jitsu nowadays—namely their miracle run to tie for 3rd in the league, and their seven-win lead in the NL East.
But as is the way with fractals, a whole is invariably comprised of smaller iterations of itself. Thusly, the Mets are playing mad jiu jitsu in their every move.

Note Carlos Torres’s instinctual backheel to lift up a grounder toward first baseman Daniel Murphy. Torres then makes for a dead-sprint to first and catches a backhanded toss from Murphy. Sure, it might look like spazzy Murphy is botching it, but maybe he’s just taking the time to say “mmmmmm herey’go!”
Either way, the play is just a spectacular display of the kind of magic luck that the Mets are rolling on.
