MONGOLIAN YAK FESTIVAL ON VBS

We flew to northern Mongolia last year which was a bit like flying into the artwork on a heavy metal t-shirt. Everywhere we looked were warrior beards, epic landscapes, birds of prey and dead things laying on the side of the road. None of this is surprising when you consider we were there to film a race across the steppe between twelve of the most metal beasts on the planet.

If you’ve never seen one, a yak is like a 600kg bull with deadly horns and Bon Jovi’s windswept hair. Definitely something you want to watch people try to race, even if it does take half a day of driving across brutal dirt tracks listening to nothing but Mongolian opera. You can see we saw at the second annual Kvosgol Province Yak Festival, including yak wrangling, yak rodeo and yak cheese-tasting, right here at VBS.
