In what feels like a cross between Daniel Canogar’s “Small Data” and something from the drafts folder of Toilet Paper Magazine, Jim Golden’s GIF series “Relics Of Technology” turns antiquated tech into re-animated devices. Set in front of ’70s-friendly pale hues, the machines are brought back from the dead media abyss to blink and whir once again.
From typewriters to floppy disks, the series was inspired when Golden found a football-sized cell phone at a thrift store. “These photos are reminders that progress has a price and our efforts have an expiration date,” says the artist rather nihilistically.
