Paul Gallen is Still Calling Out SBW for a Fight That Will Never Happen

Big-talking rugby league star Paul Gallen is now 7-0 in the boxing ring, equalling the pro record of the cross code former NRL star he still wants to scrap – Sonny Bill Williams.

The 35-year-old Cronulla Sharks back rower is fresh of a victory over Gold Coast-based Kiwi Ryan Carr-Ketu, whom he dispatched win a fourth round knockout at Southern Cross Group Stadium on last Friday.

Gallen, who will be heading back to the Sharkies next season, said that he’s still keen that SBW fight.

PAUL ‘PEPTIDES’ GALLEN IS TAKING JABS AND THE FIGHT HASN’T EVEN STARTED YET

“I’m going back to footy now, I’ve got two weeks off and then I’ve got a big season ahead of me,” Gallen told Fox Sports.

“Then this time next season we’ll weigh it up. We want to do it (a fight with Williams), everyone wants to see it so let’s make it happen.

“It’s got to the stage where it’s got to happen. I’m not planning on having too many more fights.”

Despite Gallen’s eagerness, the odds of a scrap against Williams occurring are unbelievably long. The 31-year-old code shifter is still recovering from rupturing his Achilles during New Zealand’s sevens rugby campaign at the Rio Olympics earlier in the year.

When he is back, he’ll be under contract with the Auckland Blues during the coming Super Rugby season. The chances New Zealand Rugby will allow him, two years out from the next Rugby World Cup, on getting into the ring with Gallen are virtually non-existant.

Williams himself compiled a 7-0 boxing record between 2009 and 2015, with his last fight – a points decision over American Chauncy Welliver – coming in January last year.

Gallen was on the undercard of that fight, beating Randall Rayment in his third pro scrap.
