This past week, the official Twitter account of late ESPN anchor Stuart Scott, who passed away in January after a long fight with cancer, curiously began tweeting again.
“It was creepy to me,” said Scott’s sister, Susan, who is one of the co-founders of the Stuart Scott Foundation and had planned to use the account to support the foundation’s work on behalf of those fighting cancer. However, she had not intended to send any tweets until a few changes the account’s appearance to make it less, well, creepy.

“I couldn’t tweet as Stuart with his daughters looking on,” said Susan.
The original tweets in question were sent accidentally and prematurely by an intern, who Susan Scott said is still involved with the foundation.
The future of the account will be a “platform for his vision,” according to Susan Scott. “He would criticize me for not taking advantage of any resources we had to help people’s lives in the long run.”
To complement The V Foundation’s long term focus on a cure for cancer, the Stuart Scott Foundation will focus on short-term aid for living cancer fighters. According to Susan Scott, Stuart became very aware of the privilege he enjoyed in being able to live a relatively normal life while fighting cancer, and so his goal became doing everything in his power to enable those with less privilege to live as normally as possible during their fights.
So while it appears @StuartScott will become something of a living memorial and tool for activism, it may not be quite as deeply connected with sports as its namesake.
Said Susan, “I’m not gonna comment on NBA games.”
