UC Berkeley Protesters Threw a Dance Party After Shutting Down Milo Yiannopoulos’ Talk

After anti-fascist demonstrators shut down a scheduled talk by right-wing provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos at the University of California Berkeley last night, a massive dance party erupted on the campus.

Violent protests in which masked activists set off fireworks broke out at the university hours before the controversial Breitbart editor was due to hold a talk there. The authorities clashed with protesters outside the Martin Luther King Jr. student union, resulting in the police evacuating Yiannopoulos and calling off the talk.

According to the Guardian, once the demonstrators learned that the event was cancelled, the crowd started a huge party. The first song played on a large sound system was YG’s “Fuck Donald Trump.” Other tracks played included Rihanna’s “We Found Love” and Kendrick Lamar’s “King Kunta.”

The party appeared to have been pre-planned, dubbed on Facebook as a “Resistance Dance Party.” The event described read: “Celebrate the resilience, power, and sexy dance moves of our queer, POC, immigrant, undocumented, Muslim, feminist, trans and non-binary student communities with a yuuuge DANCE PARTY and POTLUCK outside MLK Student Union to detract from Milo’s talk!”

Yiannopoulos responded to the violence in a Facebook post, claiming that “the Left is absolutely terrified of free speech and will do literally anything to shut it down.”

President Trump also responded to the incident on Twitter in which he threatened to pull the school’s federal funding.
