Watch The Trailer For The LCD Soundsystem Documentary

Sometimes when a band calls it quits, it has that feeling of gravitas, of gut-wrenching finality that seems to signify the end of an era. Such was the case when we bid farewell to LCD Soundsystem with a series of last shows that took place at Madison Square Garden last spring. With LCD and his label, DFA Records, James Murphy had given a generation of stoic hipsters permission to dance with abandon, and for that, we will always hold a special place in our hearts for him.

Luckily, PULSE was on hand to document the momentous occasion, following Murphy through the final days of LCD’s existence as he prepares for the final show. In the resulting film, SHUT UP AND PLAY THE HITS, directors Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace give us “both a narrative film documenting this once in a life time performance and an intimate portrait of James Murphy as he navigates the lead-up to the show, the day after, and the personal and professional ramifications of his decision.”
