German collective GLUEH specializes in all kinds of audiovisual performances, designing sets and installations for clubs and music venues, as well as mapping projections for live performances. Last year, they received critical acclaim for their 3D mapping projection for the Wuppertaler Performance Night in Germany.
Their latest project 360° Cube Mapping also explores the 3D medium, but with a slightly innovative angle. In this installation, the 3D couldn’t be more “real”. Using Quartz Composer, the dynamic visuals are projected onto a 3D structure, shaped to look like a short-lived, fugitive sculpture. The lightweight installation features a beamer and a pile of cardboard boxes that you’d otherwise only use to move stuff into your new apartment. The whole process comes together in this short behind-the-scenes trailer (above) and when everything’s set, it only takes a quick video edit to transform this DIY structure into a colorful and dynamic digital sculpture.
