Check Out Celestial Shore’s Zany New DIY Interactive Video

Brain shrinkage, blank-staring and zone-outs at your ‘puter are no longer an option because the raddest of interactive vids just dropped. Thanks to Brooklyn post-jazz art-pop savants Celestial Shore and game developing genius Julian Glander, you’ll be obsessively clicking and dragging your mouse until it combusts.

It’s no wonder these proggy brainiacs concocted this zany gizmo, considering the freakazoid animation of “Creation Myth,” the first single and video from Celestial Shore’s just-released, orchestrally lush second slab, Enter Ghost. On its dozen sublime songs, the ‘Shore gush honeyed clusters of knotty notes and jazzy intricacies, while a set of ghostly pipes make for sun-splashed, pop-head righteousness.

Trash a bunch of shit, throw amps and guitars around and play pinball off the walls with trippy figurines while diving into melodically dizzying avant-math pleaser, “Animal Ratio.”

What about that interactive video for “Animal Ratio,” though? We hit up Celestial Shore guitarist/singer Sam Owens and game developer Julian Glander to get the low down.

Noisey: Sam, how did this concept hatch?

Sam Owens: Last year Julian released Cloudytown, a game for iPhone wrought with existentialism. The game play is simple: you are a cloud and your job is to rain on fires that pop up across town. He references 90s-era Sim City-like computer games and uses simple design elements to present you with a remedial but enjoyable task that subliminally challenges your entire being.

For the “Animal Ratio” game, Julian constructed another condensed world: an empty show, a pizza box, and rock and roll band. There’s nothing to do but destroy the place. Julian is a toy maker, and his games feel like trinkets. They catch your eye and entertain you for as long as you allow. I think Celestial Shore functions in a similar way.

Julian, this is some trippy shit, man. Can you clue us on how you got involved and how you managed to swing it?

Julian Glander: Celestial Shore and I chatted about making some sort of cool computer thing for their new album, and we ended up with this interactive good time. It’s a little dollhouse-y DIY venue that you can trash, with everyone’s favorite psych-pop geniuses inside. Visual inspiration included Playmobil figurines and generic red beer cans.
