Frostpunk 2, the city-building survival game that forces some tough decisions, is getting a release on consoles on September 18th, 2025. But that’s not all that’s coming.
Game Pass subscribers get the game day one, and PC players get full controller support, you know, if that’s the way you choose to go with it.

Frostpunk 2 also gets physical editions
Two claps for owning your games! 11 Bit Studios has also announced that in collaboration with Skybound Games, we’ll be able to hold an actual game case in our hands and put it into our consoles. The good old days. I can still smell the instruction manual.
The original Frostpunk also made it to consoles and 11 Bit Studios mentioned that they drew from “lessons learned during the original Frostpunk’s console port, the development team has further refined the circular, easily navigable interface”.
“Initially, we tried to carry over as many interface solutions as possible,” reflects Igor Skibinski, Production Coordinator at the Frostpunk 2 team. “But the two games differ so much in terms of gameplay that we had to adapt and rework those systems over time. Still, our main focus was to make interaction with the game feel seamless – so players never have to think about how to play while they’re playing. Our ambition is to once again prove that even complex strategy games can feel intuitive and satisfying on consoles.”
City builders and RTS games are tough to translate to a gamepad. But when a studio can nail it down and provide that experience to console players, it’s a great look for everyone involved. Both Frostpunk games are great and intense experiences at the challenging end of the spectrum. However, learning the systems and understanding what the game requires of you will ultimately provide a very rewarding experience.
You can wishlist the game on the console storefronts now.
