Premiere: Jay Cres Delivers Universal Truths in the Video for “The Package”

Jay Cres has lived all over Canada, originally hailing from Ottawa but now residing in Edmonton, and his video for “The Package” reflects the realities of hustling in the cold that are a universal truth for all Canadians. The video details the life of someone grinding in Canada, and has Jay and his squad bouncing around a gazebo between scenes. Jay’s extended warbles press through the muffled drums in a voice that sounds like it’s being ripped to shreds as it passes through his lips. The delivery isn’t dissimilar from the sounds of the Prime boys in Toronto’s Esplanade, but the song is still very much a product of Jay Cres.

“Everyone know the trap has become glorified, but there’s also obviously problems this shit causes. We decided to start off with a basic trapping concept, but why not have me as both the connect as well as the dude inside the trunk,” says Jay Cres of the video concept. “We’re saying that the hustler and the person being hustled are trapping on both sides. I’m killing a part of myself at the same time.”
