One year ago today, Jay Reatard was found dead in his Memphis home. Though only 29, he left behind a discography that’s astonishing in scope, volume and quality. He was also one of the most brutal and energetic live rock’n’roll acts of the last quarter century. Jay himself said his performances were intended as “assaults” on his audience. To honor the anniversary of Jay Reatard’s passing we’ll be watching New Garage Explosion. It’s a show our roadtrip across the USA in search of vibrant, loud, eloquent, effed-up, and nearly impossible to define scenes. It also contains the last interview Jay filmed before his death.
