The headline for this story in an alternate universe–one where the NFL isn’t a cartel of old white dudes who think they are the Knights Templar sworn to protect old relics, instead of the collection of relics itself–could have been “Marshawn Lynch Wears Dope Gold Cleats For NFC Championship” or some such, and it would have been a nothing story about a popular player on one of the league’s best teams. That’s assuming it was even worth it to write up such a post.

But this is not an alternate universe, this is the universe where, as reported by Jay Glazer before the game, the NFL threatened to eject Lynch from the game if he wore the 24-karat gold cleats he had planned on wearing. So, there you go, NFL. Brand protected; job well done.
