If you haven’t seen the incredible 3-D photography of Creator Sebastian Denz, stop what you’re doing right now and go watch our video interview. Denz takes exquisite, hyper-realistic photos of skateboarders in action, capturing each kickflip and nosegrind in painstaking three-dimensional detail. And while chances are you don’t have access to the custom cameras or large format stereo apparatus Denz is using to construct his creations, you might be able to get your hands on one of the consumer-grade camcorders and still cameras about to hit the market.
Today, Panasonic announced the release of the “world’s first” 3-D shooting camcorder, which comes with a special stereo optical lens that simultaneously captures separate left- and right-eye images. This functionality enables the camera to artificially replicate the slight differences in our own perception, which are responsible for things like spatial depth perception. Unfortunately, the footage can only be played back on 3-D compatible TVs (conveniently, also produced by Panasonic, among others), so there are still significant display limitations for the time being.

Panasonic also announced a 3-D lens for their LUMIX G camera, which will be available by the end of the year, bringing 3-D technology to compact still cameras for the first time. The geeks at Gizmodo speculate that the lens may even be compatible with similar cameras like the Olympus, and brands like Samsung with proper adapters, but only time will tell.
We’re not sure if this whole 3-D craze is just a fad on steroids or if it’s here to stay, but we do know that these cameras would probably make for some really fantastic party photos.
