Germany just needs to stick its sausage into Argentina’s puffy empanada, and the countries can forget their differences on the field.
For photographer George Zisiadis, all of the strife of the World Cup can be overcome with food—in theory, at least. His “World Cup Cuisine” photo series imagines the teams as representative foods—mussels and fries for Belgium, gallo pinto for Costa Rica—and then mashes them up into a hybrid dish.

“I selected the foods through a mix of intuition, research, and ease of access,” Zisiadis tells us. “I did my best to honor the ethnic cuisines of each country.”
Not every food marriage is made in heaven, though. “I tried the combos,” says Zisiadis, “and let’s just say that some were tastier than others.” Sorry, Belgium and Argentina.
