'The Dark Tower' Trailer Is Finally Here

Stephen King's epic masterpiece, starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey, is headed to the big screen.

Now, after ten years in development—and 35 years since King wrote The Gunslinger—the first trailer for The Dark Tower is here. The film, based on King's book series, looks like it'll feature everything a Dark Tower fan could want: evil sorcery, portals between worlds, and gun fights. It even stars Idris Elba as the hero Roland, and Matthew McConaughey as the villainous Man in Black.

"I do not kill with my gun. I kill with my heart," Elba says in the trailer's final line.

If you haven't read the Dark Tower series, it's an epic fantasy slash horror series set in a post-apocalyptic sci-fi Western world. The novel begins with Roland, the gunslinger, chasing the Man in Black across the wasteland. Roland chases him to learn the truth of the Dark Tower, a building at the nexus of different universes.

Along the way, Roland and his buddies face off against a gigantic cyborg bear, a riddle-obsessed monorail, and countless other bizarre King creations. If nothing else, The Dark Tower promises to keep pop culture weird.

The Dark Tower will hit theaters on August 4.
