Creators Remix Roundup Week 32

Our Creators are a very talented and prolific bunch, and our inbox is always cluttered with alerts of new remixes and mashups from the incredible DJs and producers in our line-up. We just couldn’t keep these fresh new tunes to ourselves because, after all, filesharing is caring. Here are our top picks from the past week.

Gang Gang Dance: “Mindkilla” (Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry remix)
This track off Gang Gang Dance‘s new album Eye Contact seems to be getting some remix love of late, which is no surprise because “Mindkilla” is a track that really stands out, worming its way into your brain and refusing to leave. A few months ago we featured an outstanding remix version by Blackbird Blackbird, so we were delighted to discover another one this week from Reggae and Dub legend Lee ’Scratch’ Perry. The Jamaican producer adds his own twist to the track by using skank rhythms, emphasizing the bass line, and adding vocals about rats eating cops.

Matthew Herbert: “Wake Up” (Brother Tzuc remix)
It’s been seven years since avant-garde composer Matthew Herbert made the song “Wake Up” featuring Dani Sicilliano’s beautiful vocals, and while the sultry trip-hop inspired track still holds its own, it’s nice to see it getting this refresher from Romanian producer Brother Tzuc. Tzuc’s remix modernizes the dreamy ballad with a little sex appeal, combining, as Brother Tzuc says the “forgotten rhythms of a past age with fresh ones from around the world.”

The Wombats: “Techno Fan” (Diplo remix)
What would a Creators Project Remix Roundup be without a little Diplo thrown in? We don’t know. It happens so seldomly. Don’t get us wrong though, we’re not complaining. Rare is the song that doesn’t benefit from the prolific producer’s Midas touch. This time, he’s reworking a track called “Techno Fan” from indie-pop band The Wombats, off their recently released This Modern Glitch. It’s composed of all the essential elements every summer anthem should have: an upbeat, feel-good melody resplendent with “oohs” and “ahhs,” the crescendo swell of excitement and anticipation, the dance-inducing line “shut up and move with me,” and, of course, lots of lazers. Diplo, of course, does what he’s best known for and turns this track into a club banging remix filled with whompy bass lines and lazer squelches.
