So, right now, Diplo’s doing Snoop Lion, a new Major Lazer record, and simultaneously trying to put out something under his own name. It’s the sort of schedule that could explain why his EP sounds he’s taken a track he was going to use for Major Lazer, one he was going to give MIA to talk about Rwanda over, one he was going to put in the beak of some aspiring rap starlet, and maybe something Madonna thought was “too weird,” and lined them all up alongside each other at random. It’s a bit like Anish Kapoor’s Orbit Tower: weird, I like it, but I still have no idea why it exists.
