THUMP: What’s the Deal?
Simion: Our passion is releasing music we love. It’s not about making money, it’s about putting out music we believe in. We don’t follow trends. We just do what feels right for Hedonism.
Why did you decide to form your label?
Although I have had great releases on lots of others labels, including OFF Recordings and Suara Music, it was sometimes hard to get my tracks signed. I make a lot of music, and when it came to releasing it, I wanted to be independent from other labels’ decisions. I am still releasing on other labels as well, but with Hedonism I can fullfill my dream and release what I want.

How would you describe your sound?
Hedonism Music is all about amazing vocals, deep and techy vibes, and outstanding productions. We want to raise the bar of the technical quality, so we have only one sound engineer who is does the mastering for every release.
Tell us about the scene in Munich.
The scene in Munich is getting bigger every year. You have a lot of underground clubs like Bob Beaman, Harry Klein, MMA, Rote Sonne, Kong, plus the more middle-ground Ibiza export, Pacha. The bookings are really outstanding. The last two months they had Dixon, Hosh, John Talabot, Kim Ann Foxman, Sante & Sidney Charles, Mathias Tanzman, Audiojack, Audion, Damian Lazarus, Dense & Pika, and in December Solomun, Mano Le Tough and Maceo Plex in three competetive clubs on the same night.
What’s your favourite label that isn’t your own?
I have two favourite labels at the moment. One is Hot Creations. They are releasing great edgy tech house stuff. The other is Innversions from Berlin. Both labels are releasing great music and we have to find our own way in between all these great labels.
What makes your label different?
Our focus is on outstanding vocals and not following trends. We release the music we’d want to hear, or that we’d want to play.
Which release would you recommend to introduce a new listener to your label?
Definitely Simion – “The Groove.” We have great remixes from Kevin Knapp and Florian Kruse.
How do you connect with the artists you work with?
We have a virtual demo box, which works great. I can listen from anywhere in the world. The other way is active A&Ring. We are writing to artists directly, whose music we love.

What’s the next release on the label? How far ahead do you plan your releases?
Beatkind feat. Sean Bradford – “Undergrowth” with great mixes from Simone Vitullo and Z.D.S. (Zombie Disco Squad).
We are releasing every two months so we have enough time to do a first class promotion through Blogs and DJs for all our releases. Our motto is quality over quantity
What challenges do you face running the label?
It is very hard getting the right remixers or blogs to fulfill our idea of an hedonism release. Also at the beginning we had to struggle getting good demos.
