London Skyline To Get Pimped With 80-Story Rotating Tower

If you’re in London and you look at the historic skyline—from the medieval Tower of London to the Shard and its skyscraping brethren—one of the structures you’ll notice missing is a rotating tower, which could really pimp out the skyline and tie the whole thing together. Fortunately, all that’s about to change as Dynamic Architecture looks to build the world’s first rotating tower in London—an 80-story (same as the Shard) skyscraper with independently rotating floors, making the building look like it’s made from liquid.

Initially, the tower was going to be built in Dubai but money troubles have put it on hold, so now it seems construction will begin this year in London so they can piggyback off the Olympic hype. Here’s what Dynamic Architecture have to say, along with some gushing copy about London, on their website:

The London Dynamic Project is of profound relevance to a city reclaiming its role as “Center of the World.” London has asserted its role throughout history as a beacon of civilization. As the former capital of the largest empire the world has ever seen, and as a major political, economic and cultural centre today, the influence of London on the destiny of mankind has never faltered.

Now, as the city prepares to host for the third time the Summer Olympics in 2012, it wishes to bring this icon of future life to London, receiving its own rotating tower to serve as the landmark for the event, and an inspiration for generations to come.

Sure, it may be a shining beacon, a noble testament to the glory of London, but all we can think when we see it is all the motion sickness those rotating floors are likely to cause.
