McGregor: Jose Crumbles in One

Conor McGregor was in typically confident form while giving his last interview before leaving Ireland for his UFC 194 main event clash with Jose Aldo.

Speaking to SevereMMA.com, the Irishman could only guarantee his own attendance at the December 12 event amidst the ever-present speculation that UFC featherweight champion will not make it to the unification bout given his withdrawal from their first scheduled bout back in July.

“We’ll see,” McGregor told Andrew McGahon of SevereMMA.com when asked whether he thought Aldo would make it to the Octagon on December 12. “I’ll be there. I have made it.

“I have put myself through an intense training camp and now I’m going to go and enjoy that beach weather, get that Vitamin D and make it to fight night. Who cares if he’s there or not? I’ll be there. I hope he’s there, but I don’t know.”

McGregor highlighted that he felt the December date was too early when he initially heard about it. According to the interim champion, he thought that because Aldo was recovering from a rib injury, the timing of their UFC 194 contest might force him to rush back into training, which could lead to another mishap for the Brazilian.

‘The Notorious’ also outlined that he could “go through the whole roster in four months”, if he did not have to go through all the media obligations and “all the bullshit”. In an ideal world, the Dubliner explained that he would just show up to weigh in and then fight.

He said: “I said to (UFC), ‘it’s too early.’ I only just fought in July. I only just showed up and saved everybody’s ass by fighting in July and I could’ve easily walked and cost the company $20 million in production, $7 million on the gate and $40 million on the pay-per-view. I showed up, I fought, I blew it out of the water and then they booked me again for December. Initially I said it was a little too soon, and not for me particularly because I’ll go every week.

“If you cut out all the bullshit, if you cut out all the media obligations, I’ll show up and I’d go through the whole roster in four months. I’d whoop every single one of them on that roster inside four months if you cut out all the other shit. If you just show up on weigh in day and show up on fight night, but there is a lot more to it.

“I said to them that it was a little bit too early for Aldo because his ribs and his body. I just thought he was going to rush into camp again and it could hamper him and he could pull out injured once again. We’re getting close now, all signs point to him showing up and I hope he does.”

Predictions have become a bit of a calling card for the interim featherweight champion. Self-titled ‘Mystic Mac’, famously the SBG man declared to Joe Rogan and the crowd in the MGM back in September 2014, “I don’t just knock them out, I pick the round”, after his first round knockout of Dustin Poirier. Those of us who are betting people will be interested to know that McGregor’s forecasts a similarly swift finish to his unification bout with Jose Aldo. When asked what way the title fight would go down, McGregor said: “Jose crumbles inside one.”

“I’m hungry right now,” said the determined southpaw. “I’m prepared to kill this man and unify these belts and then what will they have to say? We’ll see what they have to say after Jose falls, he’s the number one pound for pound fighter supposedly. We’ll see what they have to say when Jose crumbles inside one.”

One of the subjects that often gets batted around when it comes to the Irish MMA superstar is the constant speculation regarding a future event at 80,000 seat national stadium, Croke Park. Interestingly, for the first time McGregor seemed to be skeptical about an event in the historical stadium.

As far as McGregor was concerned, he showcased his mass appeal with the $200 million footprint his following left on Sin City last July and he believes that astronomical figure “sealed the deal on the new MGM deal for the UFC.” Possibly hinting at some reluctance from Croke Park on a potential event at the stadium McGregor stated, “I feel like the MGM wanted me every time.”

“I’ll believe in Croke Park when I see it. I feel what I done in July in Vegas, and what the Irish people done, we brought $200 million in revenue into that city in July, that sealed the deal on the new MGM deal for the UFC. So, I’ll believe Croke Park when I see it. I know they say this and say that, but I feel I might have been locked into MGM for a while. I feel like the MGM wanted me every time because of what we bring, so I’ll believe Croke Park when I see it.”
