Today on Thumbs Up! David and Harry work their way down to New Orleans to see how the less fortunate parts of the Big Easy have been doing since being completely bowled over by Hurricane Katrina. For all the wreckage-porn we’ve been exposed to, the shot of the upside-down shed on top of the crushed car kind of sets a new benchmark for yikes. The fact that folks are still able to cobble together the hospitality for a solid neighborhood sausage roast amidst all this ruin really is pretty incredible. We don’t go in for the whole “triumph of the human spirit” thing too often (the cheesemongers in the mainstream press serve enough up for everyone), but in this case it’s pretty fucking hard to avoid.
