Levi’s has decided to dump an ungodly amount of money into a space in SoHo called the Photo Workshop. It opened on Friday evening with a show curated by Tim Barber of Tiny Vices, which is amazing, but only a small part of the space that has pretty much everything you could ask for in terms of picture making stuff–and it’s all free.
The first thing you’ll notice when you walk through the gaping garage door entrance to the workshop is a huge chalkboard with an army of cameras–film, digital, vintage, new–in front of it. Each camera is carefully outlined in chalk on the board behind it and, with a small deposit, you can borrow (film included) any of them for 24 hours. You can also print your crap onto a T-shirt or use the large format printer they’ve got just sitting there like it didn’t cost thousands and thousands of dollars.

The workshop will be around until early December, but Tim’s Tiny Vices show will only be up through Sunday, and it’s worth checking out. After the Tiny Vices show comes down we’ll be presenting 1001 Images, a collection of that many photos from Nick Zinner in the space. Below are some photos from opening night and a video featuring Tim Barber.
