Want to tell the world something, in real time — without having to get up on a soapbox and scream? A new installation by media architect Carlos J. Gómez de Llarena gives mobile phone users (aka all of us) an opportunity to have our voices projected into an urban space from anywhere we can call from.
Beginning this Friday, October 8th, just dial: 979-997-3041. You will be guided through an automatic answer to speak for 60 uninterrupted seconds, after which point Urban Speaker will hang up on you. So go ahead, reveal your secrets, and then have them broadcast from an amplified loudspeaker into a crowd of strangers.

The project is intended to explore and comment on the way the introduction of telecommunication and interactive technologies have and are continuing to alter urban media and built spaces. Gómez de Llarena says, “Temporary interventions such as this seek to re-imagine what our personal and social experience of public spaces can be in an age of ubiquitous nonstop communication.”
Public Speaker will be installed in Tompkins Square Park on October 8th from 3-7pm as part of the Conflux Festival which is happening this weekend in NY from October 8th to 10th. Stop by to see for yourself what psycho-geography is all about.
