Watch as a Man Gobbles at Turkeys and Loses His Mind Laughing

Here’s one to fire up on the old laptop when Thanksgiving’s exciting first hour of family chatter turns into six more hours of drudging malaise and careful conversational dancing around who’s in the White House: a mustachioed man, presumably a fully-grown adult, drives by a turkey pen and gobbles at them. When they gobble back, he nearly has an aneurysm.

I saw this on Reddit yesterday morning, and it’s enough to lead you down a tryptophan-laced philosophical path about how existential the internet really is. Aside from wishing it was Tom Selleck, I don’t give a single damn about who this guy is and what he’s up to. But for 55 seconds (multiplied times however many times I watch it) one of his best moments is being injected into my life, and those of many others. For him, the internet captured him in a great light; for folks made famous for screwing up on camera, it caught them at their lowest. But it doesn’t ever include all the other stuff, like him wondering if his brain is melting while he stares at the microwave, or reading a months-old magazine out of boredom, or him arguing with himself about whether or not to call in sick.

Of course, before I start to get nauseatingly thinkpiece-y on you, here’s another fun thought for you: How ridiculously dark is it that man is taunting turkeys, who are locked up in a pen presumably awaiting their death, in their own language and laughing maniacally about it? And how bad is it that now you’re laughing about it? Now I dare you to eat your bird tonight without thinking of The Shawshank Redemption.
