China’s Newest Bioweapons Against Sadfaces: Ferociously Adorable White Tiger Cubs (Video)

I dare you to tell me that white Bengal tigers aren’t the most kick-ass animals on the planet. It’s like some higher power of rock and roll tossed a regular tiger and a zebra into a celestial mushpot and created the living embodiment of a 10-minute towering arena rock solo. Oh, and when they’re cubs? Unfathomably cute.

These little guys, residents of China’s Qingdao Forest Wildlife World, were just presented to the public for the first time this week. The two-month old pair, a male and female, have both been deemed healthy, a good sign for a species that is mild-meltingly endangered. The white coat is a recessive trait, and it’s estimated that only 1 in every 10,000 Bengal tigers is born white. The genetic probabilities were a bit different for these two, however, as both of their parents are also white.

After two months in the hands of breeders, the male weighs about 15 kg, while his sister weighs about 10 kg. According to China Central Television, the young cubs are already walking about and playing with each other. They’ve also apparently learned to deal with being dressed up in traditional garb.

“They have already adapted to the environment to live independently,” Zhang Shuangge, a Qingdao Forest Wildlife World spokesman, told NTDTV. “What we should do now is to pay attention to their diet and to keep appropriate temperature and then there will be basically no problems.”

The cubs have yet to be named, with the zoo instead putting to a vote. The results are slated to be announced during the Chinese Lantern Festival, which happens on February 6th. Since most of us won’t be near Qingdao to put in our own vote, I say we toss out our own suggestions here. My picks? Happy Hour and Rock Warrior.
