Trump’s former defense secretary says he asked if racial justice protests could be stopped by shooting protesters “in the legs or something.”
“If people would have paid more attention to the situations we’ve been talking about here, he’d be alive,” one Grand Rapids resident told VICE News.
Senate candidate David McCormick has pledged to “fight the woke mob,” but he once called for “solidarity by denouncing and eradicating structural bigotry.”
The lawsuit called the messages “the modern-day digital equivalent of burning a cross.”
The young athlete’s actions are just the latest example of the widespread demands for justice in the police shooting of Amir Locke.
Locke, 22, was a delivery driver and an aspiring musician. His family is calling his death an “execution.”
“There is absolutely nothing about the subject of religion, race, or ethnicity that’s involved in this case,” the judge said.
Private emails from 2016 and 2017 obtained by VICE News show members of Eric Garcetti’s office disparaging the Black Lives Matter movement.
The four protesters didn't deny pulling down a statue of slave trader Edward Colston in June 2020 and rolling it into Bristol harbour, but said their actions were justified.
The family, who were prominent fixtures of the protests after Floyd’s murder, believes they may have been targeted.
Former Minneapolis police officer Chauvin had originally pleaded not guilty in September.
