Our Creators are a very talented and prolific bunch, and our inbox is always cluttered with alerts of new remixes and mashups from the incredible DJs and producers in our line-up. We just couldn’t keep these fresh new tunes to ourselves because, after all, filesharing is caring. As promised, here are our top picks from the past week.
David Lynch: “Good Day Today” (Boys Noize remix)
Videos by VICE
We don’t know what’s eerier, David Lynch’s odd and disturbing (and incredibly brilliant) filmography or the fact that he’s releasing a cheery, synth-heavy and heavily auto-tuned dance record at the end of January? Boys Noize have already got their hands on the debut single, delaying the vocals and blending in their signature cacophony. Compare with the original here.
Beastie Boys: “Ch-Check it Out” (DJ Wordy remix)
2004’s “Ch-Check It Out” is still the Beastie Boy’s most successful single to date, but we always appreciate new life given to an old track. DJ Wordy doctors the song, layering Eastern beats, old school scratches, and amplified sax over the original beat and lyrics, serving up a hip-hop mash-up that smashes multiple scopes of influence into three minutes of dance floor glory. P.S. Although we thought MySpace was dead, we definitely applaud the new embed option — check it out.
Vandroid: “Master and Slave” (Yuksek remix)
Vandroid isn’t exactly an artist. It was a screenplay slated to be an 80s grindhouse film with an accompanying early-synth soundtrack, but both were pronounced lost in a fire in 1984. Then in 2007 the script and soundtrack were unearthed in an old storage unit in the San Fernando Valley. How the material got from Australia to California sure beats us, but it definitely provides some good backstory for a film. Yuksek, along with Van She Tech, Fred Falke, Boy 8-Bit, and Siriusmo were invited to remix the track (whether it’s part original is unknown). We recommend listening to Yuksek’s remix on the movie’s website to get the full effect.
