Liquid currents made of blinding light seem to rise from the water in Grimanesa Amorós‘ new public installation, Golden Waters in Arizona. Inspired by the Hohokam Indians’ ancient irrigation canals, Amoros’ hung luminescent LED tubes from the Soleri Bridge extending 80 feet west of its base, using her experience building similar installations in New York, Beijing, amd more. Not only is the result a physics-defying light show, but it creates a place for communal appreciation of the natural world. “It’s fascinating how people in the community are embracing it,” she tells The Creators Project. “Kids are playing around and families are taking selfies—it’s a joy.”
Golden Waters is sponsored by Scottsdale Public Arts, and will be open for selfies through September 30, 2015.
