“All I need is five minutes,” sing Her. Five minutes for what? Let’s hope it’s not just five minutes in the sack, guys. We might need a bit more staying power than that. We suspect the five minutes might be that liminal magical moment between clapping eyes on someone and deciding, yes, let’s touch lips, let’s run away, let’s go, go, go.
But seriously the duo Her—made up of Victor (born in Germany) and Simon, who met in a French high school—have dropped exactly two songs in the past few months. Both are measured, clean cut, R&B-tinged pop, and above is the premiere of their video for second single “Five Minutes.” Sonically it’s made up of pin-sharp finger-clicks and rippled guitars, while their layered vocals cruise effortlessly over the top. Visually this video is as rich as the song: What’s the deal with that beautiful girl in the velvet cape, barely intoning the lyrics? Is she time traveling but staying staying firmly in the Palace of Versailles? Side note: God she looks good in menswear. Just watch.
