We asked some of our favorite artists to visually define some ideas and genres we felt had a big presence in 2015. Artist Gretchen Röehrs adds a new dimension to her drawings with small objects that interact with ink illustrations. Here she creates a carbon molecule with raspberries to demonstrate the way micro and bio artists add a new dimension to their work with biological and microscopic materials.
One of the purest intersections between art and science lies in the creative applications of biology. Whether it’s printing leggings with patterns from CT scans and X-rays like Epidemia Designs, or literally painting with living bacteria like Anicka Yi, the questions asked by each discipline have never been more aligned.
