“Blud” from the upcoming EP of the same name, swaddles you in a really big quilt. Derry based SOAK, aka 17 year old Bridie Monds-Watson, somehow somersaults sad exhalations about deteriorating relationships into well-crafted and uplifting psalms. Greedily playing all of the instruments on “Blud” (except for the bass), Soak’s sound has snippets of Cat Power and the delicacy of Lykke Li to it, despite her citing Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and ABBA as her main influences. Doing her Biology GCSE moments after playing Derry’s City of Culture launch, and totting up support slots for the likes of Tegan & Sara, The Undertones, and an upcoming tour with CHVRCHES- who have made her the first signing to their new label Goodbye Records – Soak and her songwriting really show up all of the Ark Music spawn.
