A package arrived at the office today and its contents were cushioned in these little polystyrene-y bits. When I picked out a nugget and nibbled on it the rest of the office got all “What the fukya doing eating polystyrene?!” Did these people not get an education? Surely, everyone knows that these days they make environmentally-friendly, biodegradable packaging made of potato and grain?
So I Wiki’ed it and guess who’s right? Yeah, I am. You just have to be
careful that you don’t get them mixed up. Here is a quick guide to telling the difference

– Edible foam peanuts are off-white, often irregular in shape, and smell like
wheat (especially when damp). They don’t squeak when squeezed together.
– Non-edible foam peanuts look whiter and are a bit shiny. They’re squeaky and
do not taste like rice cakes.
