Wow Spain, really? Dear oh dear. Casual racism and discrimination in Spanish sport is alive and well and pulling slitty eyes and making monkey noises and mimicking disabled people…

You might have thought that Spain would be trying to keep a lid on
it after its fans were exposed for taunting black athletes with
bananas. Not to mention the time their national football coach called
Thierry Henry a “black shit“. But it seems they can’t help it.

Look at
this advert published by the Spanish Basketball Federation to wish good luck to the men’s team (current Olympic champions) in the
Beijing Games. Evidently it didn’t occur to anyone that this pose might be inappropriate or offensive to Chinese people.

It is a shame really. Basketball in Spain has been in need of positive
PR ever since that
time they won gold at the Sydney Paralympic Games with a team who later
transpired were not  disabled at all.
