The best way to describe “Society” by Autobahn is to imagine if strobe lights made a sound. As refractory as it is literally refracted, the up-and-coming Leeds quintet make shattering post-punk for the emotionally repressed. The searing intensity of the guitars alone could bend a metal bar. While the verses rattle in what sounds like a steel cage, the song eventually breaks free into a romantic pop chorus that has The Cure written all over it. Following two self-titled EPs last year, Autobahn’s anticipated debut appropriately titled Dissemble drops August 21 via Tough Love Records.
