Cave of Forgotten Dreams is Werner Herzog’s new 3D documentary about the recently discovered Cave of Chauvet-Pont-d’Arc in the South of France. I’ve got to wonder if you read that last sentence all the way through since you’re still reading this. Allow me to reiterate: Werner Herzog made a 3D documentary, and it’s even better than you’re imagining. For his film, Herzog was given rare and exclusive access to the caves. Shot with the assistance of only a tiny four person crew, the film shows the extraordinary cave paintings–dating back 32,000 years–in mesmerizing detail. And in 3D–let’s not forget about the 3D part. In addition to cave paintings, the film also features a perfumer, a self-described experimental archaeologist, and two albino alligators. Jesus, why are you still reading this?
